Inpatient care
Our stroke-ward, on 30 beds, 6 of them equipped with patient monitoring for critical-care, provides state-of the art acute stroke treatment for about 700 stroke patients a year. In our hospital, ischemic stroke patients receive acute systemic thrombolytic therapy, within 4.5 hours of symptom onset, or within 6 hours with intra-arterial revascularisation. In the latter, when one of the large arteries of the brain is occluded, we can endovascularly remove the thrombus with high-tech intra-arterial devices, such as PENUMBRA, or Solitaire stent. This procedure is only available in very few centers in Hungary at the highest professional level, that is the trademark of our Institute. (See also our intravascular neuro-intervention program). More than 50 percent of those patients who underwent acute recanalisation therapy in our institute are functionally independent after 3 months.
