Cerebrovascular Flow Dynamics Research Laboratory, NICN

The Cerebrovascular Flow Dynamics Research Laboratory is operated by the collaboration of the Department of Neurointerventions of NICN and the Department of Hydrodynamic Systems at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BUTE). The primary aim of the Laboratory is the study the pathogenesis, natural history as well treatment of cerebrovascular pathology in lieu of the local hemodynamics, applying Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Our research is based on 3D angiograms of real human vascular anatomy that is converted to finite volume model using proprietary software and used for CFD simulations. Physical features of endovascular tools used for interventional treatment are measured in experimental setup and their effect on flow is simulated on CFD models. Flow conditions of vascular pathologies are studied in relation to their morphology using image fusion of high resolution MR imaging and 3D angiography.
